Safeguarding: Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults
Safeguarding is the responsibility of ensuring that children and vulnerable adults are protected from abuse, neglect, and harm. It involves promoting their well-being, access to healthcare, and overall safety, ensuring they are supported in environments that allow them to thrive.
Safeguarding Children
Safeguarding children means:
-
Protecting them from harm, neglect, or anything that may negatively impact their health and development.
-
Ensuring they grow up in a safe and supportive environment.
Child protection is a key part of safeguarding and focuses on protecting children identified as being at risk of significant harm. This includes specific procedures for responding to concerns about a child’s safety. Safeguarding and child protection apply to all children under the age of 18.
Safeguarding Adults
Safeguarding adults involves:
-
Ensuring their right to live safely, free from abuse or neglect.
-
Working together to prevent risks of harm and to intervene when necessary.
-
Promoting well-being by respecting their wishes, feelings, and beliefs.
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and everyone has a role in ensuring the safety and dignity of the most vulnerable members of our community.
